Linode is a cloud computing platform integrated into Akamai Cloud. Infrastructure is managed through Cloud Manager, a web-based interface, alongside an API, CLI, and a Terraform provider for programmatic provisioning and management of resources.
The compute product line includes Shared CPU, Dedicated CPU, and High Memory instances, all offered with an uptime SLA. GPU instances powered by Nvidia GPUs are available for AI and high-performance computing workloads, while Accelerated Compute plans feature video processing capabilities for media transcoding. Container orchestration is handled by the Linode Kubernetes Engine (LKE), a managed Kubernetes environment. The App Platform, built on LKE, offers a pre-engineered open source stack with integrated CI/CD, observability, and security for containerized application deployment. Akamai Functions is a serverless offering that runs functions across the distributed infrastructure.
Storage services include Block Storage, which provides volumes that operate independently of compute instances, and Object Storage, which is Amazon S3-compatible. An automated Backups service supports scheduled snapshots for compute instances. Managed Databases offer hosted PostgreSQL clusters with daily backups.
Networking services include Cloud Firewall, Node Balancers for managed load balancing, and DNS Manager for globally distributed DNS resolution. Private networking through VPC and VLAN enables logically isolated communication between resources. Linode Managed is a separate service tier that adds around-the-clock infrastructure monitoring and response, with cPanel included.
Core compute regions span multiple continents, with locations across North America, Europe, Asia, South America, and Oceania. The global network architecture includes core sites offering a full set of cloud computing services, as well as distributed and edge locations that extend compute and delivery capabilities. Technical support is available 24/7/365, and a library of preconfigured applications allows streamlined deployment of common software stacks on new compute instances.
